In 2019, I participated in an Earth Expeditions course in Sabah, Malaysia-Borneo. During the course, my peers and I participated in field research alongside scientists at the Danau Girang Field Centre in the Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary. We embarked on service-learning projects, field inquiry investigations, and learned from local conservation scientists at the Hutan-Kinabatangan Orang-utan Conservation Programme.
Throughout the course, our studies focused on primate conservation, rainforest ecology, public engagement with science, and community-based conservation. This illustration depicts a herd of Borneo pygmy elephants that we had the incredible honor of observing in the wild.
